WEB 120: Web Authoring II

Course Description:
This course gives an overview of the basic principles and practices of professional web site design and production using XHTML & CSS.
Through lectures, assignments and exercises, students will gain hands on experience with architecting successful websites that use proper markup that adheres to industry standards. We will use Firefox and the Firebug plugin to dynamically alter XHTML and CSS on the fly and to debug our code.

Course Goals:
Upon successful completion of this class, the student will be able to:

  • Use proper XHTML markup
  • Know the anatomy off CSS
  • Create text design with CSS
  • Create page layouts with CSS
  • Create menus with CSS
  • Understand and use website standards
  • Be able to use Firebug to debug CSS

Presentation: Lecture, demonstration, online materials and hands-on tutorials

Evaluation Methods:
Your final grade will be a culmination of your Class Assignments:

  • Assignments will create an overall Class Project to be presented at the end of the quarter
  • Assignments require critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Assignments will be “assigned” each week according to the class schedule
  • Assignments will be “due” according the assignment pages
  • Students are responsible for assignment information on assignment pages
  • Students are also responsible for assignment information given in class
  • Assignments will be marked down 50% for every week they are late
